Sometimes you don't realize all of the impacts of presence until it transforms into absence. In 2013, my parents got divorced and a lot changed around the house with the absence of my father. I began reflecting on my immediate surroundings and hometown, which generated great nostalgia for what used to be. Weighing the positives and negatives of my situation both visually and metaphorically helped to neutralize a steady balance.
Combining photographs of present-day scenes with images of the past silkscreen printed over them, this project unifies the bridge between presence and absence. Without this comparison, establishing a balanced perception of reality can be difficult. What once was shall never be again.
